"Vibrations"
Exhibition Description
"...Vibration is the formative agent behind all
material shapes." --Wassily Kandinsky
Anne Marchand presents a new body of paintings with the impact of
bright eruptions of color surging on the canvases. Ms. Marchand's
themes revolve around the movement of energies in the universe using
color rhythms and melodies accented by bold linear elements.
Whether experiencing audible rhythms or the inner stirrings of the
heart, movement is dominant in these works. A richly textured surface
adds a tactile quality to her purely abstract paintings as well
as to the Cityscapes.
Forces are at work, alive and vigorous in this artist's canvases.
She employs a process of layering paint to achieve intriguing contrasts
of light/dark, warm/cool, hard/ soft edges, radiance and mystery
which inhabit the paintings. These works are strong colorful impressions
of life; the energies of life with it's rich display of movements,
impulses, wanderings both chaotic and peaceful.
Marchand shows us a world where color forms influence, allude to
and mimic, an array of moods, questionings and energies.
The Cityscape Paintings vibrate with colors, moving the viewer into
the open space of a painting where the architecture becomes geometry
and colors reverberate with excitement, liveliness, and pattern.
The color becomes a metaphor for the tensions, stresses, confidence,
joy and wonder of the people and the structures they occupy. Bold
color lines emphasizes and contain the shapes that create pleasing
patterns across the surfaces.
Marchand uses the elements of color, line, pattern and movement
to create a mysterious and graphic statement about vibrations in
the inner world of sensations and the outer world of vision.
