"A mythic fifties cocktail dress, accessorized by long black gloves holding a martini in one hand and a cigarette in the other has been the beginning inspiration for this particular body of work. Worn with stiletto or pumps, pearls or safety pins, the little black dress goes everywhere. Boise, Paris , Rome, NY or Johnson City , Tennessee. And a very busy little black dress it is between the going and the showing, a little or a lot. Without apology. Ever. And that also has a great deal to do with why I choose to paint the little black dress. Or, for that matter, paint anything at all." Z. Brookshire
