Margery Eleme Goldberg

Education
Goldberg received a BA in Fine Arts from George Washington University in 1972 and became a guest lecturer there in 1975. Previously, she attended the Rochester Institute of Technology in New York (summer school) taking classes in woodworking, sculpture and silversmithing, 1969—1971. She guest lectured at Rochester Institute in 1974. Through childhood into young adulthood, from elementary through high school years, Goldberg attended art classes at Rochester Memorial Art Gallery.

Career highlights (1973 – Present)

¨ Created more than 300 pieces of sculptured furniture now in 90 private collections in the United States, Canada and Europe.

¨ Work also represented in dozens of corporate and private collections, including BBD & O in New York, Wilmer, Cutler and Pickering in Washington, DC; the Manufacturers Hanover Trust and Memorial Art Gallery in Rochester, New York

¨ Subject of ten one-women shows in Washington, Philadelphia, Rochester, Pittsburgh and Sag harbor

¨ Participated in more than 40 selected group shows in 13 different U.S. cities

¨ (1975)One of eight Washington women artists featured in film by Geraldine Wurtzberg funded by the National Endowment for the Arts

¨ (1978) Founded Zenith Gallery, a private art gallery featuring living Washington, national and international artists. Mediums include monumental sculpture, paintings, neon art and art furniture. Zenith Gallery relocated to a premier location in the heart of the new downtown in 1986. Gallery celebrating 20th Anniversary Year.

¨ Established Zenith Square an artists’ community in downtown Washington of 50,000 square -feet, with 50 studio artists, The Dance Exchange and Studio Theatre. Zenith Square started the Renaissance of the 14th Street corridor.

¨ Co-founded (1980) the Arts and Entertainment News Service, which has videotaped and documented more than 30 arts, music and cultural events in the Washington area and presented shows for public television (WETA) and several local galleries and clubs. The library still exists with archives of the Washington art scene.
