JESSICA DAMEN

Ariadne’s Triumph was painted during the contentious campaign re-envisions Ariadne, the heroic woman as a victor. She does not wait to be rescued nor does she wallow in victimhood. Ariadne’s Triumph sees the heroine of the ancient Greek Minotaur, Theseus, Ariadne mythic triangle, metaphorically fighting back, slaying the half bull, half beast of little intelligence.

Shortly after the election results, I painted "Slogging Through the Hungry Ghosts Swamp. The woman jogger in this painting is a contemporary heroine. The woman jogger is tenacious and the swamp has no firm ground. She is passing through the hungry ghosts, those ugly Buddhist insatiable mythical beings. In spite of the ghosts’ insatiable cravings, she persists. She slogs through the muck of the swamp and will transcend the grossness of the hungry ghosts who remain stuck in the mud.
